Police TV series back for second season

Programme returns: the second series of Policing Paradise has started to air (Image supplied)

A second series documenting the work of the Bermuda Police Service has started to air on the BBC this week.

Policing Paradise goes behind the scenes on the front line with the island’s police force, following officers as they work to keep both holidaymakers and locals safe.

Filming for the second instalment of the documentary series took place last summer, at the height of the tourist season.

Series two comprises 15 episodes in which police carry out their daily duties on land and at sea.

Cameras roll as officers conduct stop-and-search operations, carry out drugs busts, respond to traffic collisions and more.

It is understood that the BBC was pleased with the public reaction to the first series.

Additionally, the Bermuda Police Service would not rule out working with the public service broadcaster for a third time, should series two go just as well.

A police spokesman said: “Dependent on how series two goes down with the viewership, it is possible that the BBC may wish to commission further series. However, that decision has not been made.

“The Bermuda Police Service will of course consider taking part in further series, if any are commissioned, in the future.”

Viewers should anticipate the return of regular faces, while new characters are also introduced.

Meanwhile, actor Don Warrington, well known for appearing as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson in the BBC crime series Death in Paradise, takes on narrating duties.

Episode one’s description says: “With exclusive access to the police service on the paradise island of Bermuda, we follow life on the front line for the near 400 officers keeping both holidaymakers and locals safe.

“From patrols and traffic operations to the drug unit, forensics, tactical response teams, the coastguard and community policing, the series goes behind the scenes with officers at the heart of the action.”

When the programme was recommissioned last summer, Alex McLeod, commissioning editor for BBC Daytime, said Bermuda was a “truly unique place” and that the team “felt privileged to be able to have got such wonderful access”, allowing viewers to “experience what it is like to police a paradise island in peak tourist season”.

The first four episodes have been made available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
