Energy fact sheet aims to help people cut down on bills

The Department of Energy has released an energy facts sheet it hopes will encourage the public to conserve electricity.Bermuda has one of the highest energy consumption rates in the world, per capita. Energy usage accounts for between three and five percent of household bills. The form details the energy consumption of devices ranging from air conditioners and water heaters to computers and televisions, and offers advice as to how to select efficient products and use existing devices more efficiently.Environment Minister Walter Roban said that as a nation reliant on the import of foreign fuels, conservation is of major importance.“It is important that we have an informed public who are able to understand the importance of responsible energy use,” he said.“Energy conservation is not about reducing our quality of life, it is about taking reasonable action to reduce our energy consumption. Fortunately, this can be easily achieved if people have access to the appropriate information.”The fact sheets and guides can be downloaded from the Department of Energy website at www.energy.gov.bm.
