Trash warning from senior citizen

Wildlife tucks into trash left in communal areas (File photograph)

A senior at the weekend praised the “excellent job” done by trash collectors but pleaded for the public to stick to the correct days for putting out their garbage.

The woman, who asked not to be named, said trash left lying around attracted rats and other animals.

She added: “People need to be reminded to keep trash in their yard until the day it’s to be picked up.

“I’m seeing it around the island, not in one spot, and it ends up with rats, dogs and chickens pulling it out. It’s not healthy.”

The woman said: “We’re all concerned about tourists coming to see the island and we talk about keeping Bermuda beautiful, but that’s not a beautiful sight.”
