Resident fed up over lack of trash collection
Packed roadside trash bins in Hamilton Parish on the verge of overflowing have remained steadily full for about nine months, according to a fed-up neighbour who said calls were falling on deaf ears.
The resident, who declined to be named, said trash cans on either side of North Shore Road outside Francis Patton Primary School had been “full since April or May and have not been emptied since then”.
“The guys on the Works & Engineering garbage truck crews just pass by them.”
He added: “I’ve been to the health department, and they don’t want to get into it. I’ve been to Works and Engineering, and they seem like they don’t want to get into it.
“There may be more like this around the island, but this one is bad. Two trash cans outside a school go uncleared for months on end. Children stand next to them every day during the school year.
“Thousands of people pass by them every day — and nothing is done.”
The resident said “everybody is dodging the bullet” and that trash collection crews “just bypass them”.
A check by The Royal Gazette on Friday confirmed that the bins were packed to the brim — although those beside the westbound lane were not.
Queries about the situation were sent to the Ministry of Public Works.
