BE Solar has installed a “state-of-the-art” solar panel system at the Bermuda Football Association in Devonshire.

The company said the system — which features 20 high-efficiency 430-watt solar panels paired with 20 Enphase microinverters — will reduce the BFA’s carbon footprint and significantly cut long-term operating costs.

The company said the system, gifted by Aeolus Capital Management, “allows the BFA to redirect funds from utility expenses to its core mission: supporting local football programmes and nurturing the next generation of Bermudian athletes”.

It said the project is already making a measurable impact since the system has prevented 2,000lb of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere.

Mark Wade, the BFA president, said the group was “eternally grateful to Aeolus Capital Management for their gift that will keep giving for the next 30 years”.

“Additionally, we want to thank BE Solar for their expert and efficient installation and service.

“Through this one initiative, we have reduced our carbon footprint and will realise meaningful yearly cost savings.

Mr Wade said the savings made the BFA part of “team green” and allowed it to concentrate its funding on the football pitch.

Steve Wells, head of Aeolus’s charitable giving committee, said: “We are delighted once again to partner with our friends at BE Solar to help important community organisations become more sustainable and resilient.

“Football is more than a game in Bermuda — it is a powerful force for community, opportunity and youth development.

“The BFA plays a vital role in nurturing talent, building character and bringing people together across the island. We are proud to support their mission.”

Other BE Solar projects

The BFA joins a growing list of community organisations benefiting from Aeolus Capital Management’s commitment to sustainability, resilience and impact.

Others include:

Family Centre: 39.2 tonnes of carbon dioxide avoided since installation in March 2021

WindReach: 38.6 tonnes of carbon dioxide avoided since installation in November 2021

Bermuda Red Cross: 8.7 tonnes of carbon dioxide avoided since installation in May 2024

Stratton Hatfield, chief sales and marketing officer at BE Solar, said the partnership between Aeolus, the BFA and BE Solar exemplified “what’s possible when organisations work together to create a sustainable future”.

BE Solar said the clean energy system is expected to generate approximately $5,332 worth of electricity in its first year.

This will reduce the BFA’s electricity rate to only 13 cents per kilowatt-hour, saving the association an average of $444 per month.

Over the next 30 years, the system is projected to produce 310,986 kilowatts of electricity and save the BFA an estimated $232,024.
