Gombey dancers invited to ‘stomp out litter’ in KBB advert
A group of children taking part in a trash clean-up have invited a troupe of Gombey dancers to join them in a vibrant, high-energy advert released by Keep Bermuda Beautiful.
The video was filmed at Pig’s Field Playground in Pembroke and aimed to capture the purpose of the charity’s campaign.
Angel Smith, the executive director of KBB, said: “I’m excited to share a powerful new video campaign from KBB called Stomp Out the Litter.
“As part of this year’s Great Big Bermuda Clean-up, proudly sponsored by BF&M and Argus, we wanted to bring our message to life in a bold and culturally meaningful way.
“To highlight KBB’s 5Rs — Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle — we collaborated with the iconic H&H Gombeys of Bermuda to help deliver a strong visual and musical reminder that protecting Bermuda starts with changing our everyday habits.”
She said that Pig’s Field Playground was chosen as a community space because it “holds deep significance”.
Ms Smith extended a special thanks to Marq Rodriguez for filming and bringing her initial concept to life “beautifully”.
“We wanted to energise the community through a creative and culturally relevant campaign that inspires people to stomp out littering for good,” she added.
“Partnering with the H&H Gombeys allowed us to honour Bermuda’s heritage while promoting the importance of sustainability and pride in our island.”
KBB’s full 5Rs message is:
• Rethink your habit and lifestyle
• Refuse single-use plastics
• Reduce your personal waste
• Reuse as often as possible
• Recycle tin, aluminium and glass
