KBB launches campaign for a clean Cup Match
An environmental group has teamed up with the Government to encourage spectators not to litter during the Cup Match festivities.
Keep Bermuda Beautiful has partnered with Recycle Bermuda and the Department of Waste Management to launch the “Keep Cup Match Clean” campaign.
The initiative encourages all spectators to properly dispose of waste in order to reduce litter, boost recycling rates and ensure the grounds remain clean for more than 12,000 fans and visitors expected to attend.
The group has prepared bundled bags for everyone attending the two-day Cup Match Classic, which starts at Wellington Oval in St George’s tomorrow.
Each bundle contains one black bag for general waste and blue bags for recyclables, along with a reminder of what Bermuda recycles — tin, aluminium and glass.
Additional waste and recycling bins have been placed throughout the grounds of the venue.
Attendees are encouraged to make use of the provided bags and share their efforts on social media.
By following KBB on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok, tagging the organisation and using the hashtag #keepcupmatchclean, participants can enter a draw to win a discount on their 2026 Cup Match spot. The winner will be announced on August 8.
Angel Smith, KBB’s executive director, said: “Yesterday the field was coming alive with energy as branding was being installed, vendors set up and spot holders prepared for another unforgettable Cup Match.
“As we celebrate this historic holiday, whether you’re at the game, relaxing on the beach, boating or enjoying time at home, let’s all do our part to keep Bermuda clean and beautiful for everyone.”
Ms Smith also thanked her team for their dedication and hard work in preparing for the campaign this year.
She said: “From social media outreach to hanging banners, collecting and delivering supplies and coordinating logistics, the KBB team — Abby, Alandra, Amaris and Ashlee-Rose — has been incredible. I couldn’t have done it without them.”
Ms Smith extended special thanks to the K. Margaret Carter team for preparing bundled bags.
She also applauded St George’s and Somerset Cricket Club staff and players for promoting the campaign on social media.
“We are truly grateful to everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to support our efforts,” she said.
