The community can learn more about sustainable living and holistic health during Greenrock’s second annual Living Green expo on Sunday.

Eugene Dean, the chairman of the board at Greenrock, said the event at the Botanical Gardens in Paget will include live entertainment, yoga and Qigong demonstrations, a vegan food court and activities for children.

He explained: “It’s really meant to be a day where you can really fully engage in meeting people, learn about natural and sustainable living and walking away from the event, having participated and engaged in things that help you to change your behaviours on a day-to-day basis.”

He added that speakers from overseas will discuss topics such as alternative medicine, permaculture and food insecurity during the expo, set to take place from 10am until 6pm.

It will also feature a host of local and international vendors, including Social Cycles.

Mr Dean said: “Social Cycles is involved in e-bikes, something that’s become very popular around the island.

“We’re hoping to increase the popularity of that and get more people involved in nature, more people riding, doing exercise and things that are healthy for them.

“We have a number of other initiatives that we’re looking to partner with Social Cycles on. We’re happy to have them as a vendor, but most importantly, to have this partnership that’s going to allow us to do more things and get more people involved, being in nature and getting involved in healthy activity.”

Social Cycles and Greenrock are co-organising a 5K run/walk and 25K cycle race starting at 10am on Saturday.

Dexter Swan, the owner of Social Cycles, said: “When Mr Dean reached out to us about partnership and actually meeting up to ride, this is something that we do every day.

“Our guides lead tours around the island, from Dockyard all the way to St George’s, and helping him out, we would like to see participation as high as the End-to-End.”

Mr Dean, who also spoke about the expo at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute last month, encouraged people to spend more time outdoors.

He explained: “When we do that and when we connect more with nature, then our empathy towards and our care for it naturally increases.”

Mr Dean added: “The more time you spend in nature, the more your love and appreciation of it will grow and all the others things we talk about natural living will come more easily.”
