Volunteers turn out again in wake of Christmas celebrations
A day after revellers celebrated Christmas on Elbow Beach, Keep Bermuda Beautiful was out on the sands according to custom, collecting hundreds of pounds of trash as part of its annual clean-up of the site.
A KBB spokeswoman said that 17 volunteers took part in the clean-up, collecting 780lb of recycling and 112lb of general waste from bins set up for the event.
Angel Smith, executive director of KBB, said: “KBB’s Boxing Day Clean-up is about more than litter removal. It represents community pride, shared responsibility and the belief that small actions, taken together, can make a big difference.
“We encourage everyone who enjoys our beaches, especially during the holidays, to help by taking their rubbish back home with them and disposing of it properly.”
The charity spokeswoman thanked the Department of Waste Management for providing recycling and waste bins, and Secure Tucking for both placing them at the beach on Christmas Eve and collecting the waste on Boxing Day.
The spokeswoman added: “As Bermuda looks ahead to a new year, KBB hopes the spirit of the Boxing Day Clean-up will carry forward into 2026.
“Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to enjoy Bermuda’s natural beauty responsibly and to leave beaches and public spaces as they found them or better.
“The Boxing Day Clean-up remains a powerful reminder that caring for Bermuda’s environment is both a privilege and a responsibility.
“With continued community support and strong partnerships, KBB looks forward to building on this longstanding tradition and keeping Bermuda beautiful for generations to come.”
