Plant conservation lecture to highlight Botanical Gardens
A lecture exploring plant conservation in Bermuda and the role of the Botanical Gardens is coming courtesy of the Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo
The lecture, held in partnership between the Bermuda Zoological Society and the Bermuda Botanical Society, will give the public a chance to learn about the plant life that maintains the island’s urban and natural spheres.
Attendees can also learn about how to join the call to action and help with sustainability.
The lecture will be led by Danny RM Simmons, a landscape architect with more than 29 years’ experience across several government ministries and agencies.
An event spokesman said: “Mr Simmons brings extensive cross-disciplinary expertise from work in Bermuda from work in Bermuda, the Caribbean and Central America.
“His professional interests include landscape repair, urban place-making, planning and design, cultural landscape revitalisation and therapeutic horticulture through edible and medicinal landscapes.”
Organisers said that the lecture was free, but a $10 donation would be appreciated and split between the Bermuda Botanical Society and BZS education programmes.
Donations could be made on the night or online at the BZS’s website.
The lecture will take place on January 21 from 7pm to 8.30pm in the BZS classroom at BAMZ.
Spaces are limited, so those who are interested in attending were urged to sign up online.
Donations of plants and gardening-related items are also welcome and can be dropped off at the BAMZ front desk from January 18 to 21 between 9am and 4pm.
