Veteran Roque claims two wins in Friday Night series

Veteran driver Eddie Roque had two wins and clocked the fastest time during weekend harness racing at Vesey Street

Eddie Roque clocked the fastest time en route to claiming two wins during the Bermuda CableVision Friday Night Series at Vesey Street at the weekend.The veteran driver ran a 1:04 flat in the first heat of the Free for All with stallion GV Crystal Ball, which was two fifths of a second faster than the 1:04/2 David Burrows’ gelding Mike’s Shadow clocked in the same heat.He also won the second heat in the Free for All, pipping Mike’s Shadow at the line by a nose after both ponies came home in 1:05/2.Woman driver Kirista Rabain and Cameron Harris won the remaining heats in the Free for All.Chad Sutherland and Dylan DeSilva were among the night’s biggest winners.Sutherland had three wins with two different ponies. He swept both heats in the 1:15/1 and Slower division with Don’t Skipa Beat and also claimed a win with Royal Winner in the 1:06/1-1:07/1 time bar to cap a memorable day at the race track.Sutherland also came to within one fifth of a second to getting a leg out of the 1:15 and Slower time bar.DeSilva also had three wins with two different ponies. He managed three wins in the 1:08/3-1:10/3 time bar with GV Smokem and Just Like That respectively.Other multiple heat winners included Keith Woodley and Brandon Lopes.Woodley swept both heats in the 1:13-1:15 division with Spirit of Bruna while Lopes did the double with Colonel’s Cyclone in the 1:10/4-1:12/4 time bar.Roque, DeSilva, Sutherland, Lopes and Harris were also among the weekend’s purse winners.DeSilva was the fastest driver on average time in the 1:08/3-1:10/3 time bar, Roque claimed the winner’s purse in the Free for All (1:04/4 and Faster), Sutherland claimed the top prize in the 1:15/1 and Slower division while Lopes and Harris were the top drivers in the 1:10/4-1:12/4 and 1:06/1-1:07/1 time bars respectively.Track record holder Big Red Machine was among several ponies that did not compete.
