Bermuda’s dressage teams celebrate Caribbean success
Bermuda’s teams are celebrating victory in the Caribbean Equestrian Association’s Regional and Mini Dressage Challenge.
The adult team beat Barbados, Cayman Islands and Trinidad & Tobago to win the Regional Dressage Challenge, with the winning team made up of Laura Williamson, Vee McKey, Abby Bardgett, Claire Turner and Michael Rodrigues.
Williamson picked up the highest score among the 13 competitors from five island countries after riding Black Tie Affair to score 72.4 per cent in Training Level Test 3.
In First Level Test 3, Abby Bardgett and Cruise Control placed second overall with a score 66.667 per cent. Vee McKey, on Finest Hour, recorded the region’s top score of 70.476 per cent in Second Level test 3, with Michael Rodrigues, riding Rambo, placed second in the same division.
The partnership of Claire Turner and Baltazar Olympus captured first place with a score of 65.150 per cent in Fourth Level Test 3.
In the Regional Dressage Challenge for children, Team Bermuda took second place behind Trinidad & Tobago, with Barbados and Cayman Islands finishing third and fourth respectively.
The team was made up of Lila Readdy, riding Edelweiss, Grace Lightowler on Patrick and Georgia Hughes riding Cassichacco.
Readdy placed an admirable second of 20 competitors in Training Level Test 3 with a score of 68.8 per cent, while Hughes placed fourth with a score of 61.250 per cent in First Level Test 3. Lightowler scored 63.875 per cent in Third Level test 1.
Bermuda’s young riders came out on top in the Mini Dressage Challenge, beating Bahamas, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Cayman Islands and Barbados.
The Bermuda team comprised Lightowler, riding Mr Worldwide, Chloe Mello on Memory Lane Paparazzi and Logan Flood on Wild Things Wild Adventure.
Lightowler secured the top place in a field of 34 riders with her score of 71.538 per cent in Training Level Test 1. Also competing in this division were Flood, who placed fifth with a score of 67.500 per cent, and Readdy.
Victoria Smatt, riding Paddington Bear, secured an impressive third place out of 40 competitors with 67.750 per cent in Introductory Level Test C.
