When the action of the America’s Cup slows between races, the action picks up for Nadanja Bailey.

The local entertainer said he was loving his time as the emcee at the international sailing event, urging Bermudians to come out and experience the excitement.

“When you come into this Village, it’s a whole other world,” he said. “It has come to our shores. Please come and check it out. If you are talking about it and you haven’t been here, then stop talking about it. See, then talk. That’s the best advice I can give. “Don’t talk about it, be about it.”

Going into the event, Mr Bailey said he wasn’t very interested in sailing, but has found himself to be a quick fan. “I watch all the races,” he said. “The racing is definitely exciting. I was not into sailing before this event, but I’m on top of it now. These boats are pretty fast.”

While he said he is rooting for Artemis Racing, he admitted that should they be eliminated during the course of competition he would likely change allegiances.

“Some people like to flip-flop, so I guess that’s what I’ll do,” he said.

Between races, he said there was a range of things to do in the Village.

“Inside the Village, there is so much happening for kids and adults. There is entertainment going on even when there’s no racing. There is stuff to do. I’m having a fantastic time. I’m loving it. It’s what I do, baby! People are loving it. Someone said it has surpassed their expectations. That speaks volumes.”

Asked what the top attraction is for visitors other than the racing, he responded: “Me, of course. When the racing is not on, check me out. I’m always doing something crazy.

“No matter where you sit, if you get just a general ticket, if you get a ticket to be in the grandstand or any of the VIP booths, you will have an excellent time. You can always see the entertainment as well. I want to encourage you guys to come up and see this event. It’s $20 for adults, $10 for kids. You can’t beat that price. There is so much to do. If you want to leave your kids in the Endeavour Centre, you can leave them and go and watch the racing because they are probably not all about the racing.”

Mr Bailey also noted the fleet of visiting superyachts docked by the Village, saying: “I’m trying to find a yacht that needs a butler. Because I can cook. I got some Uncle Ben’s and some butter. Everyone grew up on white rice and butter if you’re from Bermuda.

“It’s beautiful. These yachts show you there’s another world out there, one I’m not a part of. Not too sure I want to be a part of it, but it’s definitely amazing.”

He urged Bermudians to come out and enjoy the fun of the “biggest sailing event on water” while it is on the island.

“I’m happy to be here, and for all my locals who have come, I thank you guys for being a part of it,” he said. “The experience for me has been wonderful, and if it stays here, I am happy to do the exact same thing I’m doing. And even if I’m not hosting the next time, I’m still going to come because of the experience I have had personally.”
