Support makes Pride ‘a beacon of hope and empowerment’

A longstanding backer of Bermuda Pride is on board again for ongoing celebrations culminating this weekend.

RenaissanceRe has been unveiled by the island’s only LGBTQ+ charity, OutBermuda, as its rainbow sponsor for Pride 2025.

OutBermuda commended the company’s endorsement of inclusion and equality along with its sponsorship.

“Corporate support is vital to making Pride accessible, impactful and sustainable,” the charity said.

“RenaissanceRe’s ongoing sponsorship not only funds key programming — it sends a message to employees, families and the broader community that LGBTQ+ people belong.”

The executive director of OutBermuda, Joshua Samuels, added: “We appreciate having trusted, long-term partners like RenaissanceRe standing with us.

“Their support helps ensure Pride continues to be a beacon of hope and empowerment for our community.”

Shannon Bender, the executive vice-president and group general counsel at RenaissanceRe, said the backing reflected the company’s “commitment to fostering inclusion, both within our organisation and in the broader community”.

She added: “OutBermuda's programmes empower LGBTQ+ individuals and ensure they feel safe, valued and celebrated.

“By championing LGBTQ+ causes, we aim to break down barriers, create spaces where everyone can thrive and build a resilient, vibrant Bermuda community.”

Pride observations for the island began on Sunday and are set to run all this week.

Events, which range from “celebratory to reflective”, include parades, panel discussions and performances. Details are online at the OutBermuda website.
