Cup Match colours line Court Street for market event
Cup Match celebrations started early on Court Street with the return of the Court Street Market yesterday.
Hundreds of shoppers and spectators attended the Pre-Cup Match Fish Fest and Fashion Show, exploring the goods at dozens of vendor stalls between Elliot Street and Victoria Street, while a red carpet was laid at the junction of Dundonald Street for performers and models.
Jalayna Trott stumbled upon the market after she was drawn to the event by the music.
She found it was a great opportunity to invest in a new outfit for the upcoming holiday.
“I always try to get something new for going down to the game,” Ms Trott said. “I was pretty sure I have what I need but it’s always good to have options.
“Town is usually pretty dead on Sundays, so having something like this pop up is nice.”
Aaron Pitt, meanwhile, said he liked to explore events such as the Court Street Market and Harbour Nights to see what local entrepreneurs had to offer.
“These markets are a great place for people to put their foot forward into the market and really get a better idea of what the demand is,” he said.
“It’s important to support entrepreneurs so I always like to come out and see what people are putting out there.”
Mr Pitt added that the promise of good food was also a draw.
“You can always get good food on Court Street but having something like this on really turns it up,” he said. “I’ve already got myself a to-go box, so I am set.”
Micah Roberts said: “The vibe here is always great. People are having a good time, enjoying themselves. It’s a good way to start the Cup Match week.”
