Fireworks no more for City tree-lighting event
A planned fireworks display that was set to accompany the annual Rockin’ Around the City Tree event has been cancelled, the City of Hamilton announced.
The organiser said that owing to “an unforeseen technical challenge” on the part of the pyrotechnics provider, the scheduled attraction cannot be delivered.
“Every other part of the evening’s fun-filled, holiday programme will proceed as planned — from the tree lighting to the high-energy dance performances and photos with Santa,” the City added.
Lorna Hayward, the City’s senior events co-ordinator, said: “We know that many were looking forward to the fireworks and we appreciate the public’s understanding.
“While this portion of the programme is unable to move forward, the evening will still offer a full, festive celebration that families have come to love.”
Rockin’ Around the City Tree will take place on Friday from 6.30pm to 9pm at City Hall.
Residents were invited to join the City and its charitable partner Tomorrow’s Voices for the event, when lights will be switched on to decorate the new City Hall Christmas tree.
The free, family-friendly gathering will feature live performances, complimentary hot chocolate and professional photographs with Santa Claus.
Entertainment is expected to include performances by Bermy Bouncers, Aalai, DanceSations, Sui Generis Dance Studio and Sia Spence.
Guests were invited to support Bermuda Autism Early Intervention Centre Tomorrow’s Voices, which has been a longtime charitable partner of the event.
The charity has provided essential therapy and developmental services to children and families across the island since 2007.
It will be on hand this Friday, selling light-up toys to raise funds.
