Annual Turkey Trot promotes health and wellness
Swan’s Running Club is celebrating the season of giving with “Bermuda’s most joyful charity race” — the Turkey Trot.
The ninth annual 8km event, sponsored by Northshore Medical and Aesthetics Centre, brings together fitness, fun and giving back in support of local families during the holiday season.
It is scheduled to take place on Sunday, starting from the Devonshire clinic at 8am for walkers and 8.30am for runners, and ending at the same location.
There will be more than 40 winners. Prizes include frozen turkeys, gift vouchers for the centre and wellness prizes. Additionally, there are special awards for the best turkey and holiday costumes.
Kennette Burgess, the marketing director at Northshore Medical and Aesthetics Centre, said: “Every year, the Turkey Trot allows us to give back in ways that truly matter — health checks, food donations, family fun and supporting active lifestyles.
“This year we’re excited to offer even more prizes, youth participation and special NMAC giveaways for registrants. It’s the perfect blend of fitness, community and holiday cheer.”
Amin Smith, a representative for Swan’s Running Club, added: “We are grateful for NMAC’s continued partnership.
“Our goal has always been to bring the community together through movement and this event embodies that spirit.
“We look forward to growing participation and creating a memorable race experience for everyone.”
There are five categories: open for ages 18 to 39; masters for ages 40 to 49; seniors for ages 50 to 59; veterans for those aged 60 plus; and youth for ages 12 to 17. The youth category is newly eligible for prizes.
The professionally-timed race welcomes all fitness levels, from competitive athletes to casual walkers.
Encouraging participants to dress up, organisers added: “Come dressed in your most creative holiday look. Families, offices, teams and friend groups are encouraged to join the fun.
“Past costumes have included turkeys, chefs, doctors, Santa suits, island-themed wear and more.”
Free health checks will be available on site and non-perishable food donations will be collected to support local feeding programmes.
Proceeds support event operations and community initiatives.
Registration is $30. To register or volunteer, visit www.nmac.bm/8k-turkey-trot.
