Call to share events and happenings for 2026 calendar
A newly formed committee has called on event organisers to put forward their own submissions for Bermuda’s first National Events and Entertainment Calendar.
The Bermuda National Events and Entertainment Committee, established under the Ministry of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport, invited event producers, cultural organisations, sporting bodies, creative practitioners, community groups and others to review their draft calendar and submit their own events for consideration.
Submissions should fall under the category of national events, with a broad public significance reflecting Bermuda’s heritage, values and identity, or signature events, which are aimed at elevating Bermuda’s profile, driving economic activity and delivering high-quality programming.
Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport, said: “Events and entertainment play a critical role in how we celebrate our culture, strengthen our communities and position Bermuda on the global stage.
“This open call is about being inclusive and intentional, ensuring that our national and signature events reflect who we are as Bermudians, support local talent and contribute meaningfully to our economic and cultural development.”
Melissa Looby, BNEEC chairwoman, said broad participation was important to reflect Bermuda’s diversity.
She said: “Bermuda’s events and entertainment ecosystem is rich, diverse and full of potential.
“By inviting submissions from all corners of our community, we are working to ensure that the National Events and Entertainment Calendar reflects who we are, what we value and the experiences we want to share with residents and visitors alike.”
A government spokeswoman said submissions would inform the BNEEC’s vetting and recommendations to the minister to ensure the calendar showcases events that highlight Bermudian identity, put a spotlight on local creatives, promote inclusivity and support community development.
The spokeswoman added: “Submissions will be reviewed using a transparent and inclusive process consistent with the committee’s charge.
“Considerations may include cultural, historical or community value, alignment with the National Tourism Plan, incorporation of Bermudian creatives, tradition-bearers businesses, economic and social impact, accessibility and inclusivity and youth engagement opportunities.
Stakeholders can submit events through an online form including event description, proposed dates, location, organiser contact information and any supporting information.
