Walkers will have an opportunity to visit heritage sites in the West End during the Bermuda National Trust’s 51st annual Palm Sunday Walk.

The popular community tradition, which will take place on March 29, offers participants a chance to enjoy a scenic walk, healthy outdoor exercise and time together while exploring Bermuda’s natural beauty, national parks and historic landmarks, the BNT said.

The 9.5km route will begin on Boaz Island in Sandys, with a flexible start time between 1pm and 2pm.

Parking will be available in a field on Boaz Island off Runway Lane and participants can expect to complete the walk in approximately two to two-and-a-half hours.

The route — designed by Myles Darrell, the BNT’s head of natural heritage, will take walkers through several locations including Lagoon Park, Watford Bridge, the Royal Naval Dockyard Cemetery and along Mangrove Bay, as well as stretches of coastline.

Mr Darrell said: “The Palm Sunday Walk is a wonderful spring tradition that invites the community to step outside, enjoy fresh air and discover parts of Bermuda they may not have explored before.

“This year’s route highlights a number of fascinating natural and cultural heritage sites in the West End of Bermuda, which will be featured on our official event map.”

Participants were encouraged to register and donate online at runsignup.com, which the BNT said will help the organisation to cover the cost of organising the event.

Donations will also support the organisation’s year-round work of preserving the island’s natural and cultural heritage.

Registration fees are $20 for BNT members, $25 for non-members and $10 for children aged 6 to12.

Registered participants may collect event bibs at Waterville, 2 Pomander Road, during business hours on March 27 or 28 from 10am to noon.

The BNT encouraged participants to register early to avoid long lines on the day of the walk.

Event T-shirts featuring a familiar “Walking Palmetto” logo will also be available for purchase.
