Live: Island Games — Day 5

Sailboarding silver for Bermuda

Follow us for regular updates from the fifth day of the NatWest Island Games in Jersey.

5.15pm: After a delay in results from the men’s Town Centre Criterium it’s been announced that a Bermuda have won gold.

Female rider Zoenique Williams was injured in a crash and taken to the hospital.

4.25pm: Official times for the 200 meter winners: Taahira Butterfield with gold in 25.51sec with Natasha Trott right on her heels with a time of 25.62 for silver. Faye Cox of Shetland came third with a time of 25.68.

4pm: Taahira Butterfield and Natasha Trott duplicated their 100 meter finishes, taking gold and silver in the women’s 200 meters.

3.45pm: Ebonie Burgess shot 78 and currently sits fourth, five points behind third and 11 behind leader Aimee Ponte of Guernsey.

Katrin Burnie sits in 15th with 258 over the first three rounds. Elizabeth Parsons is right behind at 16th, and Linda Down sits 26th.

3.20pm: Men’s individual golf results are confirmed. Will Haddrell shot 74 this morning and sits at fourth, just one point behind a three-way tie for the top spot.

Damian Palanyandi shot 72 and sits in sixth place, just two points behind the top scorers and in position to challenge for the podium in tomorrow’s decisive final round.

Mark Phillips shot 75 and ranks 13th, while Jarryd Dillas is in 30th.

1.45pm: It’s been a slow day so far from Jersey for Bermuda athletics, with our teams knocked out of the tennis, volleyball and badminton competition. Results from the golf round this morning are still being tabulated.

Coming up later in the day Taahira Butterfield and Natasha Trott will look to pick up more medals on the track in the women’s 200m final at 3:50pm Bermuda time.

12.45pm: Bermuda’s men’s indoor volleyball team went down in the semi-finals to Saaremaa. Bermuda lost all three sets, going down 25-19, 25-15, 25-19.

12pm: Two medals today on the water for Bermuda:

Kalin Hillier took bronze in the Laser Standard sailing event after finishing first and fourth in his last two events.

Meanwhile, the final three sailboarding races were cancelled due to lack of wind, leaving David Kendell in second place with silver. Scott Mello finished ninth, Matthew Wilken 15th, and Alexander Jones came 17th, putting Bermuda just out of podium position in fourth place in the team event.

It was a good week of racing for Bermuda, especially considering airline difficulties that left them without proper equipment.

Taahira Butterfield and Natasha Trott came first and second in their women’s 200m semi-final heat, and will be competing tonight in the final hoping for more medals after taking gold and silver in the 100m earlier this week.

Bermuda’s women’s indoor volleyball team finished fifth in their event after beating Hitra 3-0 in the consolation bracket.

Emma Calow and Michael Palmer were knocked out of the mixed badminton doubles round of 32, losing 1-2 to Robert Karlsson and Viktoria Meimermondt of Gotland.

Carl Reid finished tenth in the NSRA 100 Yards Prone Rifle shooting qualification group.

Hereward Peter Dill and Stephen O’Reilly finished eighth and 19th, respectively, in the Laser Radial sailing event, putting Bermuda in fifth overall in the team event.
