Sprinters hit Carifta standard

Three sprinters reached the qualifying standard for the Carifta Games in Grenada later this month during Saturday’s final qualifying meet at the National Sports Centre.

Jahkera Tucker reached the mark in the under-18 girls 100 metres when she clocked a time of 12.21 seconds to get inside the qualify time of 12.30.

Djymon Reid and Stephan Dill, in the under-18 boys 100 metres, also qualified after placing first and second in 10.97 and 11.02 to meet the qualifying time of 11.03 seconds.

Three other athletes who have already qualified, reached the mark again, with Sakari Famous and Elisha Miller doing so in the under-18 girls and boys high jump and Tiara DeRosa in under-20 girls discus when she threw a distance of 40.72 metres, well past the qualifying mark of 35.00 metres.

Famous had a leap of 1.70 metres in the high jump where the qualifying height was 1.55, while Darrell matched the boys’ qualifying mark of 1.90 metres on Saturday.
