Better day for Pimentel

Solid display: Pimentel recovered from a poor showing on Wednesday

Cameron Pimentel produced a solid day’s sailing after finishing 39th and 34th in yesterday’s Laser class in Rio.

It was a much-improved display by Pimentel who placed 45th and 42nd in the previous races on Wednesday in the worst conditions of his career.

The 25-year-old returns to Guanabara Bay today for the final two races of the ten-race opening series in 41st position out of 46 sailors on 258 points.

His best finish so far came on Tuesday when he placed 27th in the second race of the day.

Tonci Stipanovic of Croatia continues to dominate and is in first place with 47 points.

Robert Scheidt, one of Brazil’s most successful athletes, is second on 50, with Tom Burton, of Australia, third with 52.

Cecilia Wollmann is 34th in a fleet of 36 in the Laser Radial class after placing 35th and 34th in yesterday’s races.

Wollman, who is on 229 points, is also in action today in the final races of her opening series.

Anne-Marie Rindom of Denmark leads the Laser Radials with 30 points followed by Marit Bouwmeester on 40, and Annalise Murphy, of Ireland, on 44.
