Whatever you wear, make sure you wear it with confidence

Betty Doyling says you should never leave home feeling uncomfortable in what you are wearing (Photograph supplied)

I am definitely not an expert in style but I do love to feel comfortable in what I wear.

Sure everyone has off-days and yes, there will always be someone who is thinner and wearing fancier shoes or handbags, but that's okay! As long as I leave home feeling happy about my outfit of the day, it doesn't matter how flashy anyone else’s attire appears.

Check out some of my tips below to help you feel confident in anything you decide to wear.

Don’t get wrapped up in the numbers

It is so easy to get wrapped up in the numbers game in clothes and the scale. However it really doesn't matter to anyone but you. There are plenty of ladies that have a perfectly tiny waist but may wear a larger size because of their hips or bum. Wearing something that is too small is uncomfortable and could leave you walking around all day pulling and tugging on the areas that feel too snug. Just go up a size and enjoy feeling and looking your best.

Develop your signature look

Even if you feel like you don't have the most amazing style, you can still create your signature look. For example I can't leave home without my lipstick – browns, reds, pinks, purples and everything in between are always with me. So, even if I'm casual that day I can spice up my look with a little colour. I'd say if there's one thing my friends associate with my "look", it's definitely my lipstick.

∎ Pick a few staples

Invest in a few staple pieces that will make dressing easier. I love dresses and find them very versatile because all you need to do is pick out your shoes. However staples like a white T-shirt, a pair of jeans that fit well, a comfortable jacket and a pair of black booties that you can wear with anything, can make dressing easier.

Pick your own clothes

We all have different body types. There are also colours and styles that favour some of us more than others. Just because you love your bestie's outfit that accentuates her small waist doesn't mean it's going to look the same on you. Your friend's style may look great on her, however that outfit may not be the best for your body type. Find out what type of clothes look best on you even if that means you and your bestie can’t be twins. The only thing that matters is that you feel your best in what you're wearing.

Never leave home feeling uncomfortable

Do you ever get dressed and leave the house and wonder why you wore your outfit? Sometimes it's easy for us (myself included) to get ready to go somewhere and then second-guess the whole outfit but still wear it anyway because it seems like a hassle to change.

Don’t forget that nothing is worse than feeling uncomfortable or self-conscious all day long. Even if you have already worn a particular outfit, wear it again if it makes you feel comfortable.
