Bermuda is preparing to send a team to the Caribbean Football Union Under-14 Challenge Series Girls competition, hosted in Trinidad & Tobago in August.

The tournament this year will feature 23 CFU members competing across two tiers. Bermuda will compete in Tier I, which consists of eight teams divided into two groups of four.

Drawn in Group A, Bermuda’s opponents are Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Martinique. The Tier I group stage will follow a round-robin format, with the action to start on August 16.

At the conclusion of the group stage, the group winners and runners-up will progress to the semi-finals, leading to the finals scheduled for August 24.

Teams finishing in third place will head into a play-off for fifth position. For sides occupying fourth place, consolation of playing in the seventh place play-off is in store.

Coach Don Vickers is working on unearthing the next generation of under-14 players to replace those that have aged out.

“The CFU Under-14 Challenge Series, introduced in 2018, is a developmental competition that alternates between boys and girls each year,” the Bermuda Football Association said.

“It serves as an introduction to international competition for young players, aligning with the CFU's developmental agenda and Fifa’s focus on grass roots football in the region.

“The series also plays a crucial role in the CFU’s Next Generation Referee Course, providing regional match officials with the necessary skills for advancement to the Fifa international refereeing lists.”
