The Bermuda Football Association has expressed its condolences on the recent passing of two cherished figures in Bermudian football, Ralph “Gumbo” Bean Sr and Kenneth Perinchief.

Bean, a Bermuda and North Village legend, died last week at the age of 73. Perinchief, a former BFA executive committee member and renowned referee during his active years, was 80 at the time of his death.

“Ralph Bean, a true icon of the sport, was deservingly recognised as a BFA legend in 2017,” the BFA said.

“His profound passion and unwavering dedication left an enduring legacy that touched many lives within our football community.

“Kenneth Perinchief, a highly respected referee and former executive of the BFA, was a distinguished recipient of the BFA Order of Merit in 2019.

“He was widely admired for his steadfast commitment to fair play and his pivotal role in upholding the integrity of the game across our island.

“As a symbol of our most profound respect and in honour of their indelible contributions to Bermudian football, the Bermuda Football Association will be changing its official logo to black across all platforms.”

Mark Wade, the BFA president, described the late duo as symbols of strength for the local game.

“Both gentlemen were true pillars of our football community, and their contributions, both on and off the field, will be remembered and cherished,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, in honour of their departed legend, Village have postponed their annual general meeting, which was due to be held on Thursday, by a week.

“In consideration of the recent passing of Ralph “Gumbo” Bean Sr, we have respectfully decided to postpone the NVCC AGM until Thursday, June 5,” Village announced.

“The original date and time conflicts with his funeral arrangements (viewing will be held on Thursday and home going service on Friday).

“We encourage all members, friends, and extended family to attend, to pay their last respects to a North Village Legend and show our solidarity and support to our sitting vice-president, Nicole, and their entire family.”
