Nahki Wells linked with return to Bradford City
Nahki Wells has been the subject of speculation lately linking him to a possible return to former club Bradford City.
The Bermuda striker’s contract at Sky Bet Championship side Bristol City expires this summer amid speculation he could be headed back to his old stamping ground after Bradford were promoted to League One.
Wells joined the Bantams in 2011 and went on to net 42 goals in 91 appearances. He formed a lethal partnership with fellow striker James Hanson who both scored in the club’s convincing 3-0 win over Northampton Town in the 2013 League Two play-off final at Wembley Stadium.
Wells departed Valley Parade the following season after signing with Championship side Huddersfield for a club record fee and helped them to clinch promotion to the Premier League after prevailing against Reading on penalties in the play-off final at Wembley.
He eventually joined the Robins in 2020 following stints with Queen’s Park Rangers and Burnley, who signed the former Bermuda captain for £5 million in August 2017.
Wells is coming off another good season with Bristol City in which he scored ten goals and provided four assists in 39 league appearances and also helped the club qualify for the promotion play-off, which ended in a heavy 6-0 aggregate loss to Sheffield United in the semi-final.
The player, who was named as Bristol City’s Community Champion last season, has expressed his desire to remain at the club and is negotiating a potential new deal with them.
Eight players have departed ways with the Robins since the end of the past campaign, while manager Liam Manning has left to join Championship rivals Norwich City.
Wells has expressed his sadness over the departure of Manning, who has been one of his biggest supporters and had urged the club to retain his services beyond his present deal.
