Bermuda get plum draw in World Cup final qualifiers

Bermuda coach Michael Findlay expressed his joy after his team was drawn in group B against Jamaica, Curaçao and Trinidad & Tobago in the final round of the 2026 Concacaf Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

In a draw conducted by former Panama striker Blas Pérez, Bermuda were the second team from pot four to be picked. Findlay’s side will play home and away against their opponents in September, October and November.

“I’m excited as first and foremost, it is a real accomplishment to see Bermuda's name with those top-12 teams in Concacaf and an honour for us to represent Bermuda at this level,” Findlay told The Royal Gazette.

“You know any of the teams in the draw were going to provide quality and experience, but we are pleased with our section of the draw for a number of football specific and logistical benefits. It’s game on, all players and staff are looking forward to it.”

From the group, Bermuda and Curaçao are the only countries that have never been to the pinnacle of global football.

Jamaica qualified in 1998 while Trinidad became the smallest nation in terms of population to reach the finals of a World Cup tournament in 2006, a record previously held by Northern Ireland since their first World Cup appearance at the 1958 World Cup. Trinidad’s record was beaten by Iceland, who qualified for the first time in 2018.

Speaking before the draw, Concacaf president Victor Montagliani highlighted that with eight potential slots for teams from the region, this is an unprecedented opportunity.

The three group winners will secure spots in a tournament to be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, while the best two runners-up also have a hope of making it when they play in an inter-confederation play-off.

“It’s a transformative chance for our beautiful game in North America, Central America and the Caribbean,” the Concacaf leader said.

“I would like to congratulate our member associations and key stakeholders who are dedicated to the success of our game. The progress we have made has been through prioritising football and standing as one pride.

“This is just the beginning of the journey, we must continue to prioritise the development of the game at every level, from grass roots to international competition.”
