Kenny Thompson links up with former Barcelona academy boss

Kenny Thompson is now coach of coaches at Somerset

Kenny Thompson is excited to work with former FC Barcelona Academy technical director Albert Puig in a collaboration geared towards delivering world-class player and coach education in Bermuda.

Thompson’s player development programme KTECH Football Systems has struck a partnership with Albert Puig Football Concepts, headed up by founder Puig, who holds a Uefa pro licence and has more than 35 years of coaching experience.

“The KTECH-APFC partnership objective is to improve the understanding of coaches and players in Bermuda,” Thompson told The Royal Gazette.

“APFC is a coach and player development organisation built on Catalan methodology focusing on advanced techniques and structured training methods, which has helped to shape the success of La Masia at FC Barcelona.

“I’m ecstatic about the partnership as we speak the same football language. Through my immersion in football in the Catalan region, we connected through shared experiences, acquaintances and how we see the game development.

“It has been a joy working together with them and there is so much more to come.”

APFC’s blueprint is designed to help coaches, academies and clubs worldwide to raise their standards.

Through a well organised pathway, the APFC method slowly opens the secrets behind developing smart and efficient players who will dominate positional play and the game.

After each chapter, the student will have the opportunity to attend an online session with APFC methodology experts to review the game model phases covered in that particular chapter.

The new KTECH-APFC partnership will be officially launched at player and coaches clinics to be held at the National Sports Centre from Tuesday to Saturday.

“The players training sessions clinic will emphasise a deep understanding of positional play through individual and collective concepts. The age categories are under-9, under-11, under-13, under-15 and under-17,” Thompson, the assistant national coach and Somerset Trojans director of methodology, explained.

“There is also a coaches clinic attached as we know that empowered coaches transform player’s performance leading to improved team performance. The coaches clinic will consist of six hours of theoretical content and six hours of practical field sessions.

“I have no doubt that the players will enjoy the training sessions and will see improvement in their game understanding and performance within the week.

“The same for the local coaches who participate in the coach clinic. The detail and quality of delivery guarantees that they will be better coaches going into the new season.”
