Bermuda fight back from two down to beat Barbados

Bermuda celebrate the win over Barbados

Carter Thomas scored a stoppage-time winner as Bermuda fought from two goals behind to beat Barbados 3-2 at the Concacaf Under-15 Championships in Aruba on Tuesday.

Thomas netted in the fourteenth minute of added time to secure victory for Vashun Blanchette’s side after Kaiyuri Albouy pulled a goal back for Bermuda on the stroke of half-time and Jèon Wolfe brought the scores level in the second half.

After a 0-0 draw with Antigua & Barbuda on Monday, the win moved Bermuda to top of the group standings with four points. They play Trinidad & Tobago in their final match on Wednesday.

Barbados dominated proceedings early into the group E encounter with a heavy wind at their backs and took the lead after four minutes through Maleek Peters.

Wolfe had a great chance to equalise for Bermuda in the seventeenth minute when he was teed up Chaz Edmead, but Shaquan King made a great save.

Barbados doubled their lead in the 27th minute when Ricardo sliced the ball past Nuri Latham. Peters could have made it three five minutes later, only for the forward to lift his effort over the bar after being put through by Ricardo.

Wolfe had his effort kept out by Jayden Downes, the Barbados substitute goalkeeper, a minute into stoppage time.

The match was stopped for a couple of minutes to allow Bermuda player Ny’ori Dill to be attended to by medical personnel after going down with a chest injury, with the defender stretchered off to be replaced by Azai Dyer.

When the contest eventually resumed, Bermuda fought hard to get the winner. Zydon Lightbourne-Furbert forced the ball into the box and with the Barbados defence not able to clear, it fell kindly for Thomas to apply the deft touch over the line.
