Bermuda under-15 eliminated after Trinidad defeat
Bermuda will play no further part at the Concacaf Boys’ Under-15 Championship after losing 2-0 to Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday.
Headed goals in either half from Adasa Richardson and substitute Jeremai Nanton condemned Vashun Blanchette's side to their first defeat of the tournament. While Trinidad are now assured of top spot and progressed to the semi-finals, Bermuda missed out on the knockout rounds on goal difference to Antigua & Barbuda, who earlier beat Barbados 3-0.
After a 0-0 draw with Antigua and a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Barbados, Bermuda took to CD Jose Wever Stadium in Oranjestad against Trinidad top of the group with four points. However, the defeat took their goal difference from positive into negative.
Richardson opened the scoring for the young Soca Warriors in the seventh minute with a header off a Reagan Rowe cross. Blanchette responded to falling behind early by making a double change at half-time, with Kaiyuri Albouy brought in for Zydon Lightbourne-Furbert and Kayuri Tucker replacing Shiia Davis.
The changes did not do much to turn the match in Bermuda’s favour as Nanton nodded in a Sebastian James corner kick in the 51st minute to double Trinidad’s advantage.
Blanchette went into the tournament with high hopes after finishing fourth two years ago in Curaçao. Most of the players in the current squad were part of the team which finished second at the Under-14 Caribbean Football Union Challenge Series qualifiers in Trinidad a year ago.
