Nathan Trott impresses on Cardiff City debut

Nathan Trott made the perfect start to his loan spell at Cardiff City after helping his new club secure a point away to Port Vale at Vale Park last night.

The Bermudian goalkeeper kept a clean sheet on his club debut as the unbeaten Hatters held their hosts to a goalless draw to surge to the top of the League One standings.

Trott has joined Cardiff on a season-long loan from Danish side FC Copenhagen and was handed his first start at the earliest opportunity.

The 26-year-old was kept busy in the first half as he came off his line to deal with two threats and also made a save.

Trott was never really tested after the break as the home side were kept at bay through a combination of good defending and poor finishing in the attacking third of the pitch.

The former West Ham player’s club debut was not without its share of luck having been twice saved by the woodwork either side of the break.

Trott is playing in the same league as compatriot Nahki Wells, who made his debut for Luton Town last week after parting ways with Sky Bet Championship side after his contract expired at the end of June.

Cardiff and Luton will lock horns when the latter host their rivals at Kenilworth Road on August 23 in a match Wells is looking forward to with bated breath.

“I never played against a Bermudian while I have been in England so it will be a first, which is great,” Wells told The Royal Gazette.

“I dropped him a message telling him I will see him soon and look forward to that. I look forward to matching up against him and hopefully firing a few past him. That will be ideal.”

Wells is happy to see his compatriot return to British football having previously played for West Ham United and AFC Wimbledon.

“So happy to see him back in England, a fellow Bermudian who is doing great things,” he said.

“It’s good news to have another Bermudian back in English football and I know he’s joined a very good club who probably will have a successful year, which will only help him.

“I know one of our rivals have picked up a talented player so I don’t want to wish them too well. But I hope he does really well for himself and can go on to have a successful year.”
