North Village will christen their new floodlights when they host Dandy Town in the Charity Cup at Bernard Park on Sunday.

The city rivals will square off at 8pm in the second match of a double-header, which also features a women’s all-star match that kicks off at 6pm.

The occasion will mark another significant milestone in the history of the Premier Division and FA Cup champions Village, with new club president DeVrae Tankard looking forward to the first match played under floodlights at the Pembroke ground.

“We are excited to host our first night game at Bernard Park,” he told The Royal Gazette.

“Bernard Park was opened in the 1990s by past president Rudolph [Buddy] Hollis and since then we’ve hosted official day matches, but never a night game. Thanks to the work of our most recent past president Shervin Dill, who secured lights after working with Fifa and the Bermuda Football Association, we are able to realise this moment.”

Tankard said his club are also as excited to begin their 2025-26 campaign in the traditional season-opener.

“It traditionally signals the start of the football season so the players are looking forward to playing under the lights at Bernard Park and getting back into it,” he said.

“We are all excited about the upcoming season. We are just hoping for a safe and good football night and making sure we recognise the contribution of the past presidents that had the biggest impact on this realisation; Rudolph Hollis securing and building the field and Shervin Dill with creating the lights.”

The groups and dates for this season’s Dudley Eve Trophy competition were also confirmed by the BFA on Monday.

Group A consists of Village, last season’s runners-up Paget Lions, Town and promoted Boulevard Blazers.

PHC Zebras, Devonshire Cougars and Young Men’s Social Club make up group B, while St George’s Colts, Devonshire Colts and promoted X-Roads Warriors have been pitted in group C.

The competition kicks off on Monday at Goose Gosling Field, where St George’s will lock horns with X-Roads in the opening group C match (6pm), followed by the opening group B contest between PHC and Devonshire Cougars (9pm).

The opening group A fixtures will take place at Goose Gosling Field on September 6, with Paget taking on Boulevard (6pm), followed by the contest between Town and North Village (9pm).

New Dudley Eve Trophy champions will be crowned this year, with Hamilton Parish relegated last season. Parish edged Paget 2-1 in last year’s final.
