Jutorre Burgess excited to advance in Emirates FA Cup
Jutorre Burgess has an Emirates FA Cup second qualifying round to look forward to after he returns from his international commitments.
Burgess’s Harborough Town moved a step closer to getting into the first round proper of the prestigious competition after a convincing 3-0 win away to Leek Town in a replay on Tuesday night.
The Bees finally prevailed in the cup-tie on strikes from Danny Newton, Riley O'Sullivan and Alex Morris after the sides played to a goalless stalemate at the Beehive three days earlier.
“I’m incredibly proud of the team’s performance and excited to see us continue our FA Cup run,” Burgess told The Royal Gazette.
“We’ve put in the work and the lads stick together. We’re not underestimating anyone and we’re ready to battle it out on the field.”
Harborough will now face Worksop Town in the second qualifying round.
The Bermudian winger played an integral role in helping the Bees make club history last season by getting to the second round proper.
Burgess is back on the island with the senior national team as they prepare for their crucial 2026 World Cup final round qualifying matches against Jamaica and Curaçao.
The Gombey Warriors will kick off their campaign against Jamaica at Flora Duffy Stadium on Friday before facing Curaçao four days later at the Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad.
Meanwhile, Nathan Trott kept his fifth clean sheet of the season as Cardiff City beat Plymouth Argyle 4-0 at the weekend.
The Bermudian goalkeeper had a relatively quiet afternoon as the home side dominated the contest, with goals from Chris Willock (two), Ryan Wintle and Isaak Davies putting the match far beyond the visitors’ reach.
Trott was called upon only twice to keep the opposition at bay on his return to the Bluebirds squad, having not been a part of manager Brian Barry-Murphy’s team that beat Cheltenham Town 3-0 in the second round of the Carabao Cup four days earlier.
He was doubtful for last Saturday’s clash with Plymouth after experiencing a tight hamstring in the lead-up to the league contest.
Trott, 26, is off to a flying start to the season, conceding only one goal in six appearances as unbeaten Cardiff have sprinted to the top of Sky Bet League One.
The Bermudian is on a season-long loan from Danish champions FC Copenhagen.
