Nahki Wells officially opened his account at new club Luton Town in their 3-2 loss at home to ten-men Plymouth Argyle in Sky Bet League One on Saturday.

The Bermuda captain came off the bench at the start of the second half and converted from the penalty spot after being on the pitch for only three minutes to level the score at 2-2.

Plymouth were reduced to ten men when captain Joe Edwards received his marching orders in the 50th minute for a rash challenge on Luton forward Millenic Alli.

However, midfielder Bradley Ibrahim grabbed all three points for the away side in the 75th minute with his second goal of the match to put them back in front as Luton failed to capitalise on their numerical advantage.

Matthew Sorinola broke the deadlock at Kenilworth Road in the fifteenth minute before Luton equalised through forward Jerry Yates’s penalty five minutes later after Lasse Nordas was brought down in the area.

Ibrahim put Plymouth back in front in first-half stoppage time and grabbed the winner either side of striker Wells’s first goal for Luton since he joined the Hatters after leaving Bristol City in the summer.

Wells, 35, was making his first appearance for Luton since rejoining Matt Bloomfield’s squad from World Cup qualifying duty with the national team.

The defeat resulted in Luton dropping two places in the league, from seventh to ninth, on 12 points level with Wigan Athletic, Stockport County and AFC Wimbledon.

Elsewhere in Sky Bet League One on Saturday, Nathan Trott’s Cardiff City were held to a 1-1 draw away to Stockport County.

Midfielder Ollie Norwood put Stockport ahead from the penalty spot in the 34th minute before Cardiff forward Yousef Salech grabbed a last-minute equaliser for the unbeaten league leaders to preserve their unblemished record.

Cardiff top the standings on goal difference over Wells’s former club Bradford City.

Trott had a stellar first month between the posts for Cardiff after joining the club on loan from Copenhagen and did not concede a goal in five league matches for his new side in August.

His heroics did not go unnoticed as he was nominated for the League One Player of the Month for August for his outstanding performances, with the award ultimately going to Doncaster Rovers midfielder Owen Bailey.

There was plenty of cause for celebration for Jutorre Burgess after his Harborough Town side came from two goals down to edge Worksop Town 3-2 in an Emirates FA Cup second qualifying round thriller at Bowdens Park on Saturday.

Worksop drew first blood through goals from Dylan Cogill and Aleks Starcenko in the space of 15 minutes to jump out to a 2-0 lead.

They were then awarded a penalty but Harborough goalkeeper Elliott Taylor saved Liam Hughes’s powerful effort from 12 yards.

Riley O’Sullivan pulled one back for Harborough to send them into the break trailing 2-1. In the second half Ben Stephens scored the equaliser and Brady Hickey’s added-time winner completed Harborough’s impressive comeback and secured their spot in the next round.

Winger Burgess, who was ruled out of the cup tie through injury, hailed his team’s hard-fought win.

“Worksop Town, which is a Step 2 team, had us 2 -0 down in the first 15 minutes of the game and for us to come back and win 3- 2 with my team-mate scoring the winner in 93rd minute to secure our spot in the next round was awesome,” he told The Royal Gazette.

“I cannot wait to see who we draw in the next round and we are probably looking at a Step 1 team.

“Experiencing the win with team-mates, coaches and fans has created an overwhelming feeling of excitement. The momentum that has been created has boosted our confidence for future matches.”

Burgess, 19, played an integral role in helping the Bees make club history last season by getting to the second round proper in the oldest national football competition in the world.
