Bermuda take drop in Fifa rankings

Bermuda senior men’s football team

Bermuda have dropped three place in the Fifa men’s world rankings after the first two games of World Cup qualification.

The national team is now ranked 165th of the 210 countries appearing in the new list released by football’s governing body on Thursday.

Michael Findlay's side have endured a tough start in the final round of World Cup qualifiers, losing 4-0 at home against Jamaica before fighting hard in a 3-2 defeat away to Curaçao. The two losses leaving them rooted to the bottom of group B.

Bermuda did not suffer the biggest drop after the latest international window, with that undesirable honour going to Zimbabwe. The Southern African nation dropped nine placed to 125.

Slovakia made the biggest climb after collecting 25.31 points, as they went up from 52nd to 42nd position. Bermuda’s Concacaf rivals Canada gained two places and are up to 26th, their new highest rank.

At the top of the standings, Spain have replaced Argentina as the No 1 team in the world. The Argentinians dropped to third with France moving up to second.
