Tuff Dogs football development efforts hailed
Hamilton Parish president Nandi Outerbridge has thanked Tuff Dogs for helping the club’s efforts to grow football.
Parish was one of the beneficiaries of 215 pairs of boots given to boys and girls’ teams playing in the Bermuda Football Association’s youth leagues.
This year’s donation, which Tuff Dogs said was made possible by the generosity of a former player and club member, is almost double the number of boots donated two years ago.
Brothers Manny and Danny Faria, from Tuff Dogs, presided over the presentation to the clubs.
On top of the boots, which were handed over at the Clyde Best Centre of Excellence, the Corona League outfit also donated $1,000 to Parish’s youth team.
“On behalf of Hamilton Parish, I want to sincerely thank the Tuff Dogs for their generous donation of boots and the $1,000 contribution towards our youth initiatives,’’ Outerbridge said.
“Their support goes a long way in helping us provide opportunities for our young players to grow both on and off the field.
“Partnerships like these strengthen our community and ensure that the next generation has the tools and encouragement to succeed.”
Makhail Saltus, the Parish youth head coach, added: “This donation from Tuff Dogs goes a long way in helping us keep our children active while they learn and enjoy the beautiful game.
“We truly appreciate this support as it takes a village to raise the Hamilton Parish community.”
Danny Faria urged other establishments to extend their support to budding sportspeople in Bermuda.
“There are many organisations working tirelessly to help young people,” he said.
“We encourage everyone who is able to support a local athlete, club, or charity. Together, we can all assist in shaping the future leaders of our island.”
In June, Tuff Dogs hosted two charity golf tournaments. The One Love Memorial Golf Tournament was played in honour of the late Brian Morris, while the 25th Tatem Memorial Tournament honoured former softball players Donald and Jimmy Tatem, as well as Donald’s wife, Maria.
Funds raised from these tournaments were used to support young athletes and youth-focused charities across the island.
Some of these beneficiaries include the Bermuda Junior Golf Association, Bermuda Pacers Track Club, triathlete Sanchez Smith, footballer Daion Swan-DeSilva, Sa-Qui Robinson, Ambers Wings, Betta Daiz, the Anthony “Toe” Dill Memorial Tournament as well as the Jason and Gary Scholarship Fund.
Swan-DeSilva is pursuing his football career at Woodstock Academy in Connecticut. Robinson, who represented Bermuda at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup Americas Qualifier in Rydal, Georgia, is enrolled at Mike Bender Golf Academy in Lake Mary, Florida.
“These bright young athletes will one day be Bermuda’s top performers and we want to support them in every way possible,” Manny Faria said.
“Reaching one’s full potential takes discipline, dedication and resources. We are proud to help as many young athletes as we can.
“Not only will they become top athletes but we are confident they will grow into community leaders and role models for the next generation.
“Sports play an essential role in building character, teamwork and discipline, and we are honoured to be part of their journey.”
