Cougars drawn against PHC in Dudley Eve semi-finals
Devonshire Cougars were pitted against PHC Zebras and St George’s Colts will take on Dandy Town in the Dudley Eve Trophy semi-final draw at the Clyde Best Centre of Excellence yesterday.
It will be the second time Cougars and Zebras have met in this year’s competition after battling to a 2-2 stalemate during the group stage.
“PHC are a very solid, organised and experienced team when it comes to trophies,” Cougars coach Mark Smith said.
“They will be a very tough opponent in the semi-final and we will be looking forward to it.”
PHC coach Cecoy Robinson is also looking forward to renewing rivalry with Smith’s team.
“It will be a good game and looking forward to it,” he said.
“Cougars is the team we played already in the group stage and we know they have a never-say-die attitude, so we have to not only match that but also minimise the amount of mistakes we made as a team.”
St George’s Cricket Club vice-president and former midfielder Kyle Denbrook took his team’s semi-final opponents in stride.
“To win the competition you have to play who’s in front of you so at the end of the day we play who we’re given,” he said. “We were given Town so we look forward to the game.”
Town manager Chavonne Furbert said her fellow colleagues were not fussy about who they faced in the last four.
“We didn’t really have a preference,” she said.
“We are just taking each game step by step, so whoever we got is who we will play and we will prepare for the match based on who we got.”
Cougars, St George’s and Town secured automatic qualification to the last four as winners of their respective groups with Zebras the best runner-up in the three groups.
The two semi-finals will be held on October 22 at a venue yet to be confirmed.
