Nathan Trott produces another flawless display
Goalkeeper Nathan Trott has been ranked by website Football League World as the top goalkeeper in League One.
The Bermudian has been outstanding between the posts for promotion contenders Cardiff City after conceding just six goals in ten appearances since joining the Bluebirds on loan from Danish champions FC Copenhagen.
Trott was nominated for the League One Player of the Month award for August and he has continued his sparkling form into September as he kept a remarkable sixth clean sheet in Cardiff’s 2-0 win away to ten-men Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
The 26-year-old had a quiet afternoon at DW Stadium needing only to deny Wigan striker Christian Saydee in a one-on-one situation.
Cardiff prevailed with goals from Perry Ng and Yousef Salech (penalty) either side of half time to get back on track after losing to leaders Bradford City in their previous league outing.
The hosts were reduced to ten-men when defender Morgan Fox was shown a red card for hauling down Salech in the area in stoppage time, the City striker converting from 12-yards to put the match beyond reach.
Cardiff are fourth in the table, three points adrift of Bradford.
Elsewhere in League One last Saturday, Luton Town striker Nahki Wells had a penalty saved in his team’s 1-0 home win over Doncaster.
Town were awarded a penalty just before the break after Wells went down in the area under a reckless challenge by Jamie Sterry. The Bermuda captain stepped up to take the spot kick but was denied by an exceptional save from Doncaster goalkeeper Ian Lawlor.
Captain Kal Naismith’s first-half header helped Luton get back to winning after they suffered their second straight loss after losing 3-1 away to Lincoln City in their previous league outing.
Town are tenth in the table, three points shy of the play-off positions.
Also victorious on Saturday was Jutorre Burgess’s Harborough Town, who thumped Peterborough Sports 4-1 in the third round of Emirates FA Cup qualifying on their own patch at Bowdens Park to advance to the next round of the prestigious competition.
The hosts prevailed on strikes from Brady Hickey, Josh Walsh, Paul Malone and Danny Newton, while Max Booth grabbed a late consolation for National League North side Peterborough.
Harborough have been drawn away to National League side Altrincham in the fourth round of FA Cup qualifying, with the match scheduled to be played on Saturday, October 11
