Kyle Lightbourne happy to be back at PHC

Former Bermuda coach Kyle Lightbourne

Kyle Lightbourne is happy to have rejoined childhood club PHC Zebras from where he catapulted a successful playing career at home and abroad.

The former winger is back at Stadium Lane as assistant coach after stints with Robin Hood, Bermuda and most recently Dandy Town.

Lightbourne was in charge for PHC’s opening game of the Premier Division season at home to St George’s Colts last Sunday, which they won 1-0, in the absence of head coach Cecoy Robinson, who was off island on work commitments.

“It feels good to be back at PHC,” Lightbourne told The Royal Gazette. “I wish Cecoy was here instead of my being in this position, but that’s the way it is.”

The 56-year-old, who played for a host of clubs during a successful professional career in England, resigned as head coach of Dandy Town after just one season in charge.

Although his stay at the St John’s Road club was brief, Lightbourne enjoyed success by leading the Hornets to the Friendship Trophy.

PHC are off to a solid start this season, reaching the Dudley Eve Trophy semi-finals and winning their first league game.

They drew 2-2 with Devonshire Cougars and beat Young Men’s Social Club 3-0 in their group matches to advance to the last four in the competition as the best runners-up.

“We want to contend in the league; there’s no hiding about that with PHC,” he said.

“We’ve got our feet rolling and hopefully we can move on from there. We’ve got a big squad and are taking it one game at a time.”
