Findlay keeps faith in players for World Cup qualifiers

Bermuda coach Michael Findlay has stuck with the bulk of the players who did duty in the opening two matches for the upcoming 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica.

A list of 24 players released by the Bermuda Football Association on Friday shows only one change.

Jutorre Burgess, who plays for Harborough Town in England, misses out because of injury.

The 19-year-old forward was included when Bermuda took on Jamaica at home and Curaçao away, but was an unused substitute.

Bermuda face Trinidad & Tobago next Friday at the Flora Duffy Stadium before taking on Jamaica four days later in Kingston.

With the Gombey Warriors at the bottom of group B with no points, Findlay is viewing the upcoming fixtures as key to Bermuda’s pursuit of a maiden appearance at the World Cup.

“The October matches versus T&T and Jamaica once again provide us an opportunity to continue our quest to qualify for the 2026 Fifa World Cup, but that does not come without its challenges which we need to rise to the occasion to overcome,” Findlay said.

“It is also another opportunity to evaluate our overall progress as a programme and experience international football at the level we wish to be a part of in the future on a consistent basis.

“We are excited about our next steps in this process and our long-term plan for the Bermuda national team programme.

“Given the results in September these games are critical to us being part of the Concacaf final round qualification story when it comes to the November matches.

“That will only come with the continued courage, commitment and fight our players have displayed in the past as a team, but must be accompanied by an added focus on our tactical and technical execution in and out of possession in both upcoming matches.

“The group feels we had opportunities to gain points in match one and two, but did not execute on some key factors but they are very much committed to changing that versus T&T and then in our second match against Jamaica.”
