Jutorre Burgess FA Cup run comes to end
Jutorre Burgess and his Harborough Town team-mates came up short in their attempt to reach the Emirates FA Cup proper round for the second straight year.
The Bees bowed out of the prestigious competition courtesy of a 3-0 extra time defeat at home to National League side Altrincham at the Beehive on Tuesday.
The home side suffered an early setback in the seventh minute when Riley O’Sullivan was shown a straight red card after catching Robins goalkeeper Louis Fallon in the chest with a high boot in a 50-50 challenge for a long clearance.
Despite being a man down, the Bees dug deep to keep the visitors at bay and send the fourth qualifying round replay to extra time after neither team were able to score in regulation time.
However, the numerical disadvantage finally began to take its toll on the hosts as the cup tie entered extra time, with the visitors Jimmy Knowles finally breaking their resistance in the 98th minute.
Sam Reed doubled the Robins’ advantage in the 107th minute before Knowles grabbed a second three minutes later to put the marathon cup tie beyond reach.
Bermudian winger Burgess, who played an integral role in helping the Bees make club history last season by getting to the second round proper in the competition, was an unused substitute in the match.
Southern League Premier Division Central outfit Harborough came from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw and force a replay in the initial FA Cup fourth round qualifying match at Altrincham at Moss Lane last Saturday.
