Dennis Brown proud to serve on CFU committee
Dennis Brown has grasped the opportunity to play a part in the advancement of football within the region after accepting an invitation to serve on the Caribbean Football Union’s Football Development Committee.
The former Somerset Trojans and Bermuda captain will serve on the committee for the next four years, with his duties to include evaluating the state of football within the region and formulating recommendations for improvement.
Speaking on his recent appointment, Brown said he was “humbled and honoured” to have received the invitation to serve at this level.
“Being asked to serve on the Caribbean Football Union’s Football Development Committee is a tremendous privilege and a reflection of the collective progress Bermuda has made in football development,” he told The Royal Gazette.
“It’s an honour to represent Bermuda and to serve alongside respected colleagues from across the Caribbean who share a common goal of advancing football development.”
The former star defender could not pass up the opportunity after receiving the invitation to serve on the CFU committee from the Bermuda Football Association.
“My decision to accept was influenced by my lifelong commitment to football and my desire to contribute to the growth of the game across the Caribbean,” he said.
“I see this as an opportunity to share Bermuda’s experiences while also learning from other nations within the region.
“The term is for four years and as a member of the Football Development Committee my duties include evaluating the current state of football within the region, formulating recommendations for improvement and helping to shape programmes that support player, coach and club development.
“Additionally, I’ll act as an ambassador for the CFU at regional events, contribute to technical reports and assist with recommendations related to competitions, formats and host selections.”
Brown believes local football will benefit from his involvement on the CFU committee.
“This appointment provides Bermuda with a direct voice in regional football development discussions and decisions,” he said.
“It also allows us to strengthen relationships with other football associations, access new development opportunities and ensure Bermuda remains actively involved in shaping the future of Caribbean football.”
Asked what he hopes to achieve, Brown said: “During my tenure I hope to help strengthen youth and grass roots football development across the Caribbean, promote collaboration between member associations and ensure that smaller nations like Bermuda have the resources and platforms needed to thrive.
“My goal is to see measurable progress in coaching standards, player pathways and football infrastructure across the region.”
Brown also expressed gratitude to the BFA for affording him the opportunity to give back to the sport at the regional level.
“I would like to sincerely thank the Bermuda Football Association for having the confidence and faith in me to represent Bermuda in this venture,” he said.
“I have proudly represented Bermuda at the international level as a player since the age of 14 and have continued to do so as a coach for many years. This appointment allows me to continue that service — not only for Bermuda, but for the advancement of football throughout the Caribbean.”
