X-Roads coach salutes players for great start to season
X-Roads coach Farid El Karfa has applauded his players for their contribution to the team’s flawless season.
El Karfa’s side sit at the top of the Premier Division standings with ten points after three wins and a draw from their four games and they enjoy a superior goal difference over Dandy Town, who are also unbeaten.
Speaking after his team conquered fellow promoted side Boulevard Blazers 3-2 on Sunday, the Moroccan felt that the good start can be put down to the work ethic of his squad.
“I guess the key is that we’ve got a good squad, players with good discipline and good character,” El Karfa told The Royal Gazette.
“They give their best and we try to prepare the best we can on the training pitch because that’s critical. As they say, the games are won on the training pitch.
“So I guess our preparation has been good in training and the guys, again, they show good character and they want it.
“The credit goes to them because after all, they are the ones on the pitch getting the job done.”
In their last league match, X-Roads surrendered a two-goal advantage and only managed to secure the three points through Donovan Thompson’s stoppage-time winner.
While Thompson and Paul Simons have been banging in the goals, Edivaldo Joao Abranches, Christian Smith, Daniel Teleman and Jarye Bean have done a great job of shielding Kamran Harvey’s goal.
“It feels very good to win because it was not an easy match,” the coach said.
“We have so many players injured and had two other players get injured in the game. We had a lot of forced substitutes and it got challenging towards the end.
“But again, as we have shown, we displayed a lot of character. Previously, we did the same thing and we kept fighting until the end and we were able to pull out a goal in the last minute or two.”
