Logan Jimenez and Danavon Thompson are settling in well to life as the newest members of Bermuda football squad.

Nearly 15 years separates teenager Jimenez, 17, from the 31-year-old Thompson but they are experiencing the same excitement at training with new team-mates and hoping to make their international debut against Curaçao on Thursday.

Jimenez captained the Bermuda Under-17 team and is on a path to the top after signing as a professional with Hibernian, who play in the Scottish Premiership. A confident left-sided player, he is hoping that he can get the chance to showcase his attacking talent.

“I know that I’m good enough to be here and that’s why I got picked, so I just want that one chance to play,” he said.

It’s a great feeling to get called up for the first time and I’ve always dreamt of playing for Bermuda, so it’s amazing to do so at 17.

“I love going forward and I had a meeting with coach Findlay. He told me that he loves players that go forward, that’s what he wants me to do and I’m a natural doing that.”

Thompson is one of a number of players based locally in the squad and he is trying to establish himself as he gets used to the gulf in quality between training with the national team and his club side X-Roads.

“With X-Roads the intensity is the same, it’s just that there is a lot more quality here,” Thompson said.

“There is loads of quality in this team and just training with them is amazing. I’m trying to keep up with everybody else, get sharper and I’m hoping to get just one chance to show everyone what I can do.”

Thompson’s friends and family are thrilled that he has been given the opportunity to represent his country and he admits that he will be feeling the pressure if he is given the chance to perform.

“It feels like a lot of pressure but I’m just going to do what I do and that’s score goals,” he said.

“Everybody I know is excited and my phone won’t stop ringing. I’m excited and right now I just want to prove a point, not to everybody else, but to myself that I can score goals not just locally but internationally.”
