North Village not taking Paget lightly
North Village coach Calvin Dill Jr is not paying much attention to Paget’s struggles in the Premier Division.
In advance of their clash at Bernard Park on Friday night (9pm), Village sit a point off leaders Dandy Town after four wins on the spin, while Paget have endured a lean spell with defeat in their last two matches.
Victory for Village will see them temporarily displace Dandy Town from the top of the standings before the Hornets face St George’s Colts at White Hill Field on Sunday.
“I can’t really worry about the other team’s form,” Dill told The Royal Gazette.
“We have to concentrate on this duel because at any given day it’s 90 minutes of football and anything could happen, But if we stay true to ourselves, not worry about the opposition and just play our game, then we should come out on top.”
With league action giving way to the Friendship Trophy until the new year after this weekend, Village are looking to go into the break in the perfect position to continue the defence of their Premier Division title.
“This is our last league game of the year,” the Village coach said.
“I had a talk with my coaching staff when we started the season and we said if we could end up with 15 to 18 points by Christmas, that would be really great.
“Since we've been on our trajectory, the guys have been putting in hard work and it's coming together, so we just hope that we can move it forward as we go.”
Village will have to do without the injured trio of Quinn Outerbridge, Rai Sampson and Terryn Fray. Sampson could be out for the rest of the season after fracturing an ankle in the 4-1 victory over St George’s.
For Paget, who finished fourth last season, the fixture presents a perfect opportunity to turn their fortunes around. Captain Diaje Hart displayed his quality by winning the Golden Boot with 16 goals last season.
If Hart gets support from the likes of Kion Knights, Paget could cause problems for the Village defence.
