X-Roads Warriors coach Farid El Karfa is pursuing a return to winning ways when they play against Devonshire Cougars at St David’s Oval tomorrow.

After a fine start in their return to the Premier Division, which saw them record three wins and a draw in their opening four fixtures, X-Roads have lost their way.

El Karfa’s side have picked up two points from a possible 12, with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Dandy Town in their previous encounter.

“For us the next game is an opportunity to get back to winning,” El Karfa told The Royal Gazette.

“We are aware we are playing against good opposition, but we are ready in spite of facing injuries of some of our key players.

“However, the rest of the squad are ready and looking to maintain good performance and hopefully a win that would put us back into a good position in the table.

“We have been playing short of some key players every game due mainly to injuries, work or religious reasons. In some games our finishing and performances in front of goal have been our biggest enemy.”

Devonshire Colts coach Ray Jones, who enjoys a one-match advantage against his title rivals, wants to head into the new year within touching distance of the leading pack. Colts recovered from a 2-0 loss to PHC to triumph 3-1 over Boulevard the last time they took to the field.

“It’s an important match this weekend for us to try to stay in touch with the leaders,” said Jones, whose charges face struggling Young Men’s Social Club.

“We are also trying to create a level of consistency. We are aware of Social Club’s potential, regardless of where they are in the standings, so we know it will be a tough match.”

PHC have made remarkable recovery from a wobbly, Cecoy Robinson’s side winners of three on the trot.

The former champions stand a chance to remain in the title race when they clash with Boulevard at Devonshire Recreation Club.
