Somersfield Academy is commemorating another great football season, made possible through its partnership with LB Football Academy that has been refined over the last three years.

According to the school, from September to December, a dedicated team of five volunteer coaches from LB Football Academy, led by Leo Burgess, worked closely with Somersfield students, delivering high-quality football coaching and fostering a love for the game.

The LB Football Academy coaches provided lunchtime training sessions three days a week for students from Primary 5 through the Diploma programme, supporting both skill development and teamwork.

What seems to have stood out is the positive and inclusive coaching approach, which is said to have had a significant impact on student confidence and performance, with strong results across multiple teams over the past two years.

“Having such committed and positive role models within our school community is invaluable,” Somersfield Academy said.

“We are extremely grateful for the time, energy and enthusiasm the LB coaches bring to our programme.”

This season Rychus Symonds led the primary girls, primary boys A and primary boys B teams. He was supported by Kyshon Burgess, Kamran Harvey and Jaden Ratteray-Smith, all of whom generously volunteered their expertise.

Somersfield’s primary girls team enjoyed a standout season, reaching the semi-finals in both the league and the seven-a-side tournament.

The primary boys A team also advanced to the semi-finals in both the league and the six-a-side tournament, while the primary boys B team demonstrated strong commitment and teamwork throughout the season.

At the middle school level, the under-13 boys team coached by Burgess, delivered an outstanding campaign, remaining undefeated in the 11-a-side league and winning the Knockout Cup for the second consecutive year.

The dramatic final against Whitney Institute Middle School ended 3-3, with Somersfield securing a 7-6 victory on penalties. The team also topped their group in the six-a-side tournament before narrowly exiting in the semi-finals.

Also mentored by Burgess, the over-13 boys completed an undefeated league season under the leadership of team captain Matteo Aleong. They reached the semi-finals of both the 11-a-side and six-a-side tournaments, narrowly losing on penalties in closely contested matches.

The middle school girls team progressed to the semi-finals of the knockout tournament and recorded multiple league victories, demonstrating resilience and continued development throughout the season.

At the senior level, the under-16 team, getting instructions from Burgess and David Lunn, as well as the over-16 side under the guidance of Da-Von Wade, represented their school well in the six-a-side tournament.
