Nathan Trott keeps another clean sheet in Cardiff win
Nathan Trott produced another clean sheet as his Cardiff City edged Wigan Athletic 1-0 at Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday.
The Bermudian goalkeeper was making his second start in Brian Barry-Murphy’s squad since returning from a hand injury and saved the only Wigan shot on target as the Bluebirds chalked up their sixteenth win of the season to preserve a three-point advantage at the top of League One standings.
Trott positioned himself well to deny Wigan midfielder Fraser Murray’s close range effort in the first half and was never tested thereafter as the home side dominated.
Cardiff started on the front foot and took a deserved lead through captain Calum Chambers’s stunning 25-yard strike midway through the first half, which turned out to be the winning goal.
Elsewhere, Nahki Wells’s Luton Town had their League One match away to Doncaster postponed as a result of a frozen pitch at the Eco-Power Stadium.
The Bermuda striker was expected to retain his spot in Jack Wilshere’s squad after making four straights starts since returning from an ankle injury in a 3-2 loss away to Reading last month.
The Hatters are eighth in the standings, four points adrift of the play-off positions.
