Devonshire Cougars start new year with victory
Chae Brangman marked his return to Devonshire Cougars’s starting line-up by getting on the scoresheet in his team’s 2-0 win over relegation-threatened Boulevard Blazers at Devonshire Recreation Club on Sunday night.
Returning after a festive vacation, Brangman and Chamori Burns scored either side of half time to ensure Cougars made a winning start to the new year.
“It was just a routine game,” Mark Mills, the Cougars coach, told The Royal Gazette.
“We were kind of leggy after the long holiday, but other than that it was a routine game. We missed a lot of chances, but it’s three points and it’s good to keep the momentum in the league.”
Brangman, who has been in good form this season, broke the deadlock in the 27th minute when Domico Coddington’s miskick fell invitingly for the striker, who planted his effort inside the far post to earn Cougars a 1-0 advantage at the interval.
Winger Burns then put the Premier Division contest beyond Boulevard’s reach in the 55th minute with a shot that clipped the bar on its way into the net to cap off a brilliant counter-attack that began deep in the Cougars half.
The result moved Cougars up to fifth in the standings with 16 points, while Blazers remain anchored at the bottom and are still in search of a first win on their return to top- flight football.
