Title hopefuls PHC and Hornets primed for battle
Title hopefuls PHC Zebras and Dandy Town will cross swords in a crucial top-of-the- table clash in the Premier Division at PHC Field tonight (9pm).
Both clubs are thick in the hunt for league honours and will be keen to make further inroads in what has been a tight title race.
Zebras edged X-Roads 2-1 in their previous outing to extend their unbeaten run in the league to eight games and will be hoping to get the better of the visiting Hornets.
Town’s title hopes took a hit courtesy of a humbling 4-1 defeat at home to fellow title contenders Devonshire Colts last time and they will now be hoping to bounce back at the earliest opportunity.
Action kicks off at PHC Field with the First Division fixture pitting leaders Robin Hood against St David’s beginning at 7pm.
In the Premier Division tomorrow the action will shift to the opposite end of the table with two matches involving teams in, or hovering just above, the relegation zone.
Second from bottom Young Men’s Social Club will host bottom side Boulevard at Police Field, while seventh-place Paget entertain eighth-place St George’s at White Hill Field.
Bluebirds edged Paget 2-1 to secure their first league win of the season last time out, while Blazers’ wait for a maiden league win continues after squandering a two -goal advantage in a 3-3 drawwith St George’s.
Only six points separates Paget from bottom club Boulevard, with St George’s hovering just above the relegation zone on goal difference.
The remaining Premier Division clash will feature X-Roads hosting champions North Village at Lord’s in St David’s.
Village edged Devonshire Cougars 2-1 in their previous outing to keep their slim title hopes alive.
There are also two First Division fixtures on tap tomorrow, with title hopefuls Somerset Trojans hosting Shield champions Somerset Bridge in a west end derby at Somerset Cricket Club and Southampton Rangers doing battle with visiting Wolves at Southampton Oval.
